The 14-year-old British-Pakistani Sirine Jahangir won hearts of Britain's Got Talent judges but there is a heartbreaking story behind her amazing audition.
Sirine impressed the judges with her version of Salvation by Gabrielle Aplin and got a rave reaction from the audience in the room, with her brother in tears as she sang.
The heartbreaking moment Sirine and her parents realised she had a serious eyesight problem was when she dressed up as a pirate aged five.
And then four years later when Sirine was just nine, despite a number of medical procedures, she also lost all vision in her right eye.
Her dad Kafeel recalled, "We tried everything, even having her treated in India for six weeks and injections into her eye. But we felt helpless. When she was nine, Sirine was playing a game on her iPad and holding it very close to her face as she always did."
He went on to add, “Suddenly she came over, handed me the tablet and said she couldn’t play it any more. That was the moment I knew her sight was gone. I took myself into another room of the house to have a cry.”
After Alesha hit her Golden Buzzer for comedian Nabil Abdulrashid, all of the Golden Buzzer for this year was chosen, meaning blind singer Sirine wouldn't have got straight through to the live shows which are set to take place this year, reported The Sun.
But that didn't stop the teenager from having a massive impact on Britain's Got Talent judges, particularly Simon. Sirine said, "I remember watching Simon on television and thinking he looked scary. It sounds like he’s quite different now, he’s definitely nicer.”
Speaking to the judges, she said, "There was a time when I could and now I can't. But I guess music is my vision and that's what I love, music is my thing."
Sirine received four yeses from the judges and audience members found themselves crying as they watched her.
The live shows have been postponed amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, this evening’s show was filmed earlier this year before the lockdown.
Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon are back for another round at the judges’ table this year.
