Public transport reopens today in Rawalpindi

The government has strictly directed bus operators and passengers to observe the precautionary SOPs

RAWALPINDI: Inter-city buses, parked at their stands for over two months, will start ferrying passengers across the province from today (Monday). Commuters can rejoice after the government slashed fares in line with the reduction in petroleum prices.

A notification issued on Sunday said that fares of air-conditioned (AC) buses have been reduced by 20 per cent, while those for non-AC public transport, the fares have been reduced by up to 93 paisas per kilometre (km).

The government has strictly directed bus operators and passengers to observe the precautionary standard operating procedures (SOPs) during trips.

Buses having two doors will use one door as the entry gate and the other one for exit. Moreover, face masks and gloves have been deemed mandatory for bus staff and passengers as well as for those boarding a bus for inspections. All vehicles will be disinfected using chlorinated water after completing each trip.
