Popular actor Osman Khalid Butt recently appeared in a live session with Rafay Rashdi, during which the two discussed many things, with the most important being the struggles of actors in Pakistan.

Having been involved in politics, Rashdi took the example of voters who are not loyal to any single particular political party and asked Butt if actors were the same? “Are they also not loyal to anyone but themselves,” he questioned. To this the latter responded immediately, "Actors have to only think about themselves, because nobody else thinks about them."

Butt went on to explain how it is very easy for celebrities to fall from grace and actors are generally "emotional creatures." He admitted that many actors are money minded too, but that’s also because they have to be. "Otherwise actors are easily exploited in this industry, especially in terms of finances,” noted the Balu Maahi star.

“People often rub the 'we are providing you such a big platform' notion into our faces," Butt said while mimicking those who do it. He then went onto refer to the criticism received by the cast members of Diriliş: Ertuğrul, to explain how the reality for majority of the actors was the same. “Many a times we wake up to some kind of social media bullying that ruins their entire day” he confessed.

He further reiterated the kind of criticism actors receive on social media, "I don't care if people say that our industry needs to be thick skinned. How thick skinned? I ask you, how thick skinned should we be? Our families are being verbally abused, our character is being assassinated and our acting is being criticized. Everything from our hair to our nails is up for sale!” he said furiously.

In the heat of the moment, Butt went on to point out that "the culture of 'making stars' also does not exist in Pakistan." The Baaji star explained how the industry and our government has failed to make stars, because despite an actor having fans who defend and support him or her, majority of the population is waiting on them to make a single mistake.

"You make one mistake and you start trending everywhere, people are canceling you - because of this cancel culture that is so prevalent now. We are being called a 'mirasi,' a 'kanjar,' which I have been un-ironically called," he revealed. Butt continued to relay how actors are shamed for not only their profession, but also the stigma surrounding their livelihood and are then they are asked why they only think about themselves.

The Ehd-e-Wafa actor also took into account the music industry of Pakistan and to slam the way musicians are treated. He explained how both musicians and actors are only respected once they receive foreign recognition.

"We only care about foreign validation here. Why does it happen that if a local publication reviews something we did, everyone is silent? But when a foreign publication writes about it, everyone suddenly wants to relate to us,” he concluded.
