In a major development, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday appointed former spokesman of Punjab government Shahbaz Gill as his special assistant on political communication.

"The prime minister, in terms of Rule 4(6) of the Rules of Business, 1973 read with serial No1 A of Schedule V-A of the said Rules has been pleased to appoint Dr Shahbaz Gill as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Communication, with immediate effect," read a notification issued by the Cabinet Division.

The above appointment shall be on an honorary basis, the notification further said.

Taking to Twitter, Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhary congratulated Gill for his appointment as PM's aide.

Gill rose to prominence when he became an active and vocal spokesperson for Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, who was being criticised for his apparent lack of leadership skills and incompetence.
