Do we really need to run to the markets for Eid shopping, asks Sanam Saeed

The celebrity along with Ushna Shah and Shaneira Akram questioned the need for clinging to old habits amid Covid-19

As pictures of jam-packed traffic, blocked roads and crowded markets surface the internet, celebrities question the need for Eid shopping amid a pandemic.

Earlier, activist Shaniera Akram had expressed disappointment at the public for ceasing to adhere to rules of social distancing. In a tweet on Tuesday she wrote, “Seeing footage of traffic blocked roads, congested streets and market places and hundreds of people without even a mask on. This country makes me want to cry."

Now Sanam Saeed has taken to her social media to relay similar sentiments. The Cake actor started off with asking, "Do we really need to run to the markets for Eid shopping?"

Knowing that people can just as well order clothes online or try to spend Eid differently this year, Saeed went on to argue with those still adamant on clinging to old habits.

"Will we go back to our old ways without showing any change? Please ehtiyaat say bahir jaain (take precautions while going outside). This is another crucial time since everyone is rushing out together at once. Maybe try celebrating Eid differently this year."

Television actor Ushna Shah had also criticised the public earlier for the same reasons. She wrote on Twitter, "Yeah we are open now (collective sigh of relief). But can we still please exercise some social distancing ...chipken mat (do not stick with each other) Stay safe!"

Owing to their call outs, let's  just say these celebrities want what's best for the nation. But regardless of whether a celebrity calls out those roaming in crowded places for Eid shopping or not - as a nation currently struggling with a pandemic - we need to take precautionary measures so we can make it to Eid without contracting the virus.
