Court revokes three officials’ judicial power

Senior lawyers including District Bar President Mustafa Shah and others hailed the decision

RAWALPINDI: A district and sessions court of Rawalpindi revoked the judicial  powers assigned to three district officials.

The order was given on the directions of the Lahore High Court (LHC).

The judicial powers assigned to the assistant commissioner city, registrars of urban I and II were annulled by the court. It further ordered that all the cases relating tenancy, profiteering, labour law violations under proceeding with the administrative officials would be transferred to the courts of three civil judges. The notification regarding the appointment of three new judges has also been issued while they have assigned the duties to hear the cases filed in the jurisdictions of different police stations

Senior lawyers including District Bar President Mustafa Shah and others hailed the decision, expressing that empowering the district officials with magistrate powers was wrong.
