Hopes Quetta development package will restore city’s infrastructure

QUETTA: Chief Minister of Balochistan Jam Kamal Khan on Monday presided over a meeting to review progress on implementation of Quetta Development Package under PSDP 2019-20 and the coronavirus impact on the provincial economy.

Provincial ministers, government secretaries and Commissioner Quetta Division were present in the meeting where the CM expressed optimism over the Quetta Development package that would almost take three years to complete, developing the infrastructure in the capital and restoring its beauty.

Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development, Hafiz Abdul Basit briefed the cabinet members regarding the on-going and preferred development schemes whereas the finance secretary shed comprehensive light on the allocated and release of funds for these projects.

The chief minister and his cabinet decided to release funds for the project.

Addressing the meeting CM Kamal said the pandemic jeopardised thousands of jobs in Balochistan and would enhance poverty here. He directed the Planning and Development and Finance departments to induct economic programs in next year’s budget.

Reviewing progress in Quetta Development Project, the government decided to intensify construction and expansion of Joint Road, Sabzal Road and Sariab Road.

“Seven new parks being established in Quetta city while six new sports complexes being established. Furthermore, government would start expansion of Brewery Road, Sirki Road, Prince Road, and Badini Road.” Additional Chief Secretary P&D added.

The Balochistan Government expressed reservations over inappropriate behavior of NESPAK in monitoring and consultancy of various development projects, deciding to raise the issue with its authorities.

The provincial chief executive directed PD Quetta to introduce sewerage projects in the Quetta Development Package in order to restore beauty of the capital.
