Two cops succumb to coronavirus
ASI Anwar's death marks the first Covid-19 casualty in Karachi police
KARACHI: The coronavirus has claimed the lives of at least two cops in Karachi. A police officer lost his life to Covid-19 on Tuesday, while the first fatality in the department due to the deadly virus was reported on Monday.
Constable Muhammad Anees, 53, of the Anti Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) passed away on Tuesday. He had tested positive for the virus on April 26, and was directed by hospital administration to quarantine himself at his house.
According to SSP AVLC Sarfaraz Nawaz, the constable's health suddenly took a turn for the worse on Tuesday morning and he was swiftly shifted to the hospital, where he succumbed to the disease.
Anees had been posted at Malir AVLC DSP's office and was a resident of Landhi area.
According to the SSP, there are two other officers in the AVLC department who have tested positive for the virus.
Meanwhile, ASI Anwar Jahangir was the first cop to succumb to the deadly virus. The former wireless operator at the City SSP's office had also self-quarantined at his house after testing positive for the virus, but succumbed to the disease on Monday. He was 58-years-old.
