Karachi Police lose two to coronavirus
Around 100 police officers infected in Sindh, with 70 only in Karachi
Two cops were reported to have lost their lives to the deadly coronavirus in Karachi in two days, authorities reported on Tuesday.
53-year-old Constable Muhammad Anees of the Anti Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) passed away earlier today after testing positive for the virus on April 26.
He was directed by the hospital administration to quarantine himself at his home.
According to SSP AVLC Sarfaraz Nawaz, the constable's health suddenly took a turn for the worse on Tuesday morning. He was immediately shifted to the hospital, where he succumbed to the disease.
Anees had been posted at Malir AVLC DSP's office and was a resident of Landhi area.
According to the SSP, two other officers in the AVLC department who have tested positive for the virus.
Meanwhile, 58-year-old ASI Anwar Jahangir succumbed to the deadly virus on Monday. The former wireless operator at the SSP City office was also self-isolating at his house.
He was laid to rest in the Baldia Town graveyard.
There are around 99 police officials who have tested positive for Covid-19 in Sindh, with at least 70 cops infected in Karachi. Three police personnel in Karachi have recovered from the virus.
Ensuring implementation of SOPs and other directives during the corona-induced lockdown, police personnel have been on the forefront in the fight against the virus. For the most part, officers have remained on duty without being provided personal protective gear.
