The Third Basic Recruit Course passing out ceremony was held at the National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) training college for 170 junior patrol officers on Sunday.
Inspector General Zafarullah Khan congratulated the graduates and hoped that they would uphold Motorway Police’s mission of enforcing traffic laws and educating people about safe driving practices.
DIGs Fateh Sher Joyia, Dr Shafiq, Shahid Yar Khan , SSP Jahanzeib Khan Jogezai, the Training Institute commandant, and SSP Inkasar Khan were also present on the occasion.
The six month course included a basic module course, a driving course and a programme in wireless-phone operations training.
IG Khan mentioned that the Transparency International had recently rated the NHMP as 13th most transparent departments in the world and the Asian Development Bank had recommended it as a model for other countries. He said since its inception in 1997, the accident rate had gone down by 70 per cent.
The department was operating 19 road safety institutions in the country to educate people about traffic laws. The IG later announced a Rs500,000 grant for the Guidance Centre.
