Rs10.8m ration given to needy in Balochistan

'Al-Khidmat Foundation has been distributing safety gears, including PPE'

QUETTA: Jamat-e-Islami provincial ameer Maulana Abdul Haq Hashmi has revealed that the party’s Al-Khidmat Foundation has distributed Rs10.8 million worth of ration among the needy, saying that more than 150 volunteers are taking part in relief operations across Balochistan.

“Disinfection spray campaign has been conducted at 3,000 spots in Quetta while more than 13,000 masks have been distributed among the people,” Hashmi said while addressing a virtual party meeting on Wednesday.

Al-Khidmat Foundation provincial President Engineer Jamil Kurd submitted a report of his organisations’ social services across the province during the pandemic.

The meeting expressed satisfaction over the services being provided by the Al-Khidmat Foundation during the coronavirus outbreak, vowing to expand the relief operation in the far-flung areas of Balochistan.

He said that of the total amount of Rs10.8 million, Rs10.2 million was donated by provincial philanthropists.

“Ration distribution would continue till the end of Ramazan while volunteers have been directed to intensify the disinfection spray campaigns across Quetta,” Hashmi said.

The Balochistan chapter of JI decided to launch a fund-raising campaign across the entire province in order to assist people and the business community affected by the virus-induced lockdown.

Hashmi slammed the incumbent provincial government for providing “insufficient relief” to daily wagers and poor families, adding that the government chose the easy way out instead of behaving responsibly.

“Al-Khidmat Foundation has been distributing safety gears, including personal protective equipment, gloves and masks to doctors, health staff and paramedics working on the frontline in the battle against the novel coronavirus,” Hashmi concluded.
