DC tells tanker owners to strain water with cloth tied over pipes

RAWALPINDI: The district administration has directed owners of water supply tankers to cover their supply pipes with a cloth to block the flow of dengue larvae in the underground water tanks.

Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anwarul Haq on Thursday issued these directions to all public and private water hydrants, tube well operators and the related departments to ensure implementation of the orders as a preventive measure against the dengue virus.

Haq said that the dengue larvae could settle down in huge quantities in the water tankers or bowsers and the pipes would serve as a conduit to transport it to underground water tanks.

Therefore, the DC instructed that the supply pipe outlet should be covered with a cloth piece, preferably of georgette or cotton, so that the larvae flow into the water tankers could be blocked curtailed.

The district administration has warned that the violation of orders would lead to the impounding of water tankers and bowsers while the administration would also impose heavy fines on those flouting orders.

Dengue surveillance starts in ‘sensitive’ UCs

Further, considering that the freshwater reservoirs are suitable breeding grounds for dengue larvae, the district administration has decided to conduct a third-party survey to inspect whether the water supply tankers kept their lids closed during and after the duties.

The teams to conduct these surveys would comprise officials from different departments.
