Iran discusses Afghan peace process with Pakistan

Iranian Foreign Minister Dr Javad Zarif also exchanges Ramazan greetings with FM Qureshi over phone call

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan and hopes for the earliest commencement of intra-Afghan negotiations.

FM Qureshi expressed these thoughts during a telephone call by Iranian counterpart Dr Javad Zarif on Thursday. Both the leaders exchanged greetings on the advent of holy month of Ramazan.

Qureshi also highlighted the enhanced difficulties in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJ&K) due to communication restrictions and lack of unfettered access to medical and other supplies to combat coronavirus outbreak.



FM Qureshi thanked the Iranian leadership for their principled position on the rights of the Kashmiri people.

He also drew attention to the demonisation of Muslims in India in the context of Covid-19 while emphasising that "it should be rejected by the world community".

Offering condolences over the loss of precious lives in Iran due to Covid-19, Qureshi expressed the hope that Iran would achieve success against the global pandemic.

The two leaders also discussed the recent outbreak of desert locust in the region and agreed on the need for collective endeavours to effectively address the menace.
