Photos of a five-year-old Afghan boy, Emran, have gone viral on social media due to the uniqueness of his eye colour, reports Khaama Press News Agency.

The photos were first broadcasted by state-run radio and television, Radio Television Afghanistan (RTA).

According to RTA, Emran has unique eye colour but is unable to hear or speak due to a condition called Waardenburg syndrome.

He originally hails from Surkh Rod district of eastern Nangarhar.

According to the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD), Waardenburg syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that may be evident at birth (congenital) and can cause loss of hearing and changes in pigmentation of the eyes (iris of one or both eyes), skin and hair.

The range and severity of associated symptoms may vary from case to case.
