Ranveer, Deepika's '83' to release in theatres first

Kapil Dev biopic was slated to release on April 10

Due to Covid-19, many film festivals and producers have taken to releasing films and other finished projects online.

Days after co-producers Reliance Entertainment denied that the much-hyped '83 would go straight to an OTT (Over-The-Top) platform before its theatrical release.

Now, renowned Indian trade analyst Taran Adarsh has now shared that the film will release in theatres when the time is "appropriate."

"Exclusive: '83 The Film will release in theatres first, as and when the time is appropriate. Won't release on OTT platform first," tweeted Adarsh.

On Saturday, Reliance Entertainment dismissed all rumours of a direct OTT release for the film, claiming they would "evaluate" if the situation did not become normal even after six months, according to Bollywood Hungama.

"There is no truth to these reports. '83 has been made for the big-screen experience. Right now, there's no intention or interest on the part of the directors or us as producers, to take these films to the small screen," Shibashish Sarkar, Reliance Entertainment Group CEO, had said.

"If the situation deteriorates rapidly or there is no visibility of normalcy even after six months, we will evaluate then. But right now, we are all quite positive and I foresee that between the next four to six months, cinema halls will start operating. So that's the hope and mindset which we currently have," he added.

'83 stars Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh in titular roles as Romy and Kapil Dev. The film was touted to be released on April 10, before the coronavirus pandemic occurred.

The film has now been delayed indefinitely. '83 marks the return of the Bollywood 'it' couple on the big screen after their wedding in 2018. The duo has starred in multiple films such as Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat previously.
