Chris Hemsworth to play WWE’s Hulk Hogan in biopic by 'Joker' director

The 'Thor' actor thinks he could win an Oscar for the role

Critically acclaimed film Thor's leading actor Chris Hemsworth is lined up to play WWE legend Hulk Hogan in an upcoming Netflix biopic, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Additionally, the film is directed by Todd Phillips, who was also the director for Joker.

One of the biggest names in the wrestling arena, Hogan was a fixture on TV sets in 1980's America as part of the World Wrestling Federation. He subsequently parlayed his championships-winning leg drops and star power to foray into movies and television, endorsements and video games.

Hemsworth revealed he has not seen the script of the film yet in an interview with Screen Rant. He said, "I know it's being written right now and worked on. I know very little about that. It's sort of in the process now."

He added, "I'm just fascinated by that world, and I think they're pretty keen to show a side of the world that people haven't seen before. "I'm as intrigued as you are."

Commenting on the film, Hogan said on TV a few months ago that Phillips previously told him that Hemsworth thinks he could potentially earn an Oscar for the role.

"We had a meeting and (Phillips) goes, 'I really think this could be a huge movie and Chris Hemsworth is a huge fan,'" Hogan said.
