Islamabad's magistrates to watch profiteers

Food department also issuing daily rate list for perishable items

ISLAMABAD: To ensure a smooth supply of food items in the federal capital during the holy month of Ramazan and to keep prices in check price magistrates have been deployed in the city.

This was stated by the Islamabad Capital Territory (ITC) Administration Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat on Wednesday.

He said that these magistrates have started preparations for checking the rates of food items, vegetables and fruits, and thwarting any attempts at overcharging.

DC Shafqaat reviewed measures launched in the city for the provision of food items at the government regulated rates.

Shafqaat said that traders have assured them of full cooperation in increasing the supply of food items keeping in view rising demands of consumers during Ramazan so that a supply and demand issue does not arise, at least during the first 10 days of the fasting month.

The deputy commission further ordered the magistrates to check prices in their respective areas daily and take stern action against profiteers and hoarders.

He said that the food department is also issuing a daily rate list for perishable items such as fruits and vegetables while the district administration is ensuring that shopkeepers display the official rate list of food items.
