Media Backlash: Protest against television station

KARACHI:

A protest against SAMAA TV was staged on Friday after Zuhr from Qasba Chowk to Katti Pahari. Scores of people came out with placards and banners.

A few days ago a SAMAA TV DSNG van was attacked and set on fire in the area. According to the protesters, however, the attackers were unidentified people who opened fire in Muhammad Pur and then ran away.

“The Police and rangers are always in the area but it is beyond our understanding where they go when such incidents take place,” they said.

They complained that the media kept saying that the Taliban were in the area but if that were the case, why haven’t any been arrested? They also complained that the media was biased and only presented the “Pakhtun side” of the Pahari and not the “Urdu-speaking side”.
