Vidya Balan felt she was being shunned from mainstream films

The actor, however, enjoys choosing low-budget films over staring alongside Bollywood A-listers

Actor Vidya Balan in a recent interview with Pinkvilla, opened up about being 'sidelined' from films with A-listers. “At some point, I felt I’m not being considered for mainstream A-lister superstar films," she said.

According to the Begum Jaan star, this started to happen after she took on films that centered around a female lead. However, Balan is pretty much content with how things are going for her in Bollywood. " I was enjoying the content and being the whole and soul of a film so much that I did choose this over that," she said.

"But look at it, Mission Mangal has happened and it’s not just a romantic lead. It’s a prominent role and this is how I’d like it anyway.”

Balan has previously worked opposite A-listers such as Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachan. Since acting in Ishqiya, the actor, however, has on many occasions opted to star in more plot-focused, relatively low budget films, as opposed to popcorn flicks with a huge star ensemble.

The actor is set to star in the biopic of renowned mathematician, Shakuntala Devi. The film also stars Sanya Malhotra and Jisshu Sengupta with Anu Menon as director.
