KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MPA Arsalan Taj Ghumman urged the Sindh government on Saturday to involve local leaders and begin community vigilance for effectively mitigating the spread of the coronavirus.

The MPA said it was important to involve local leadership, including union councillors, in implementing steps for controlling the contagion to ensure citizens' safety.

He further called for devising an effective strategy to flatten the curve of the pandemic, pointing out that strategic sealing of Covid-19 hotspots could improve the situation by a significant margin.

Ghumman said that if provided the details of streets, neighbourhoods, apartments and slums where coronavirus cases were reported, elected representatives could play their roles in assisting vulnerable segments and motivating them to practice preventive measures. Availability of this data and other information was crucial for dealing with the crisis, he added.

"In order to ensure citizens' compliance with lockdown orders, people need to be assured that their essential requirements will be taken care of," he said, emphasising that elected representative were in the best position to do so as they were aware of ground realities and had easy access to voters.
