RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi District Zakat and Ushr committees have released funds worth Rs80 million for distribution amongst daily wage labourers who have been left in the lurch due to the lockdown, imposed to contain the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

Each of 9,138 deserving candidates will receive a stipend of Rs9,000. Until now, some Rs80.22 million have already been transferred to the unprivileged, Zakat Committee Chairman Ghulam Khan said. He added that they will not leave daily-wage workers in a lurch under current circumstances. He noted that the stipend is being transferred through branchless banking services such as mobile wallets.
