Comstech, of which the President of Pakistan is the chairperson, was set up in 1981 to strengthen cooperation in science and technology among OIC states, and to increase the capability of Muslim countries in science and technology.
Dr Choudhary is one of the highest decorated scientists in the country, having won civil awards including the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Sitara-e-Imtiaz and Hilal-e-Imtiaz. He is also a member of the National Commission for Science and Technology.
In a press statement, KU vice chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi and ICCBS patron-in-chief Prof Attaur Rahman congratulated Dr Choudhary on his appointment, terming it an honour not only for the university but the nation as a whole.
He is the second person from ICCBS to be appointed to this position, with Prof Rahman having served in it earlier.
