KARACHI: A person was killed while three others were injured after four men opened fire at a ration distribution drive in Surjani Town on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as 35-year-old Javed. The injured included the brother of the deceased, 40-year-old Saleem, 18-year-old Adnan and 22-year-old Azeem.

The injured were immediately taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where they were said to be in a stable condition.

The body of the deceased was handed over to the family following the completion of medico-legal formalities.

The police identified the suspects as Mudassir, Abdullah Shah, Shamu and Din.

"According to area residents, the staff of a welfare organisation had arrived in the locality for distribution of rations a day ago, where a clash broke out with an unidentified man over the formation of a queue," the police shared. The dispute was later resolved.

However, the four suspects returned the next day and started shooting at the staff that had arrived in the area to resume the rations drive.

The police claimed that all the suspects were residents of Surjani Town, and raids were being conducted for their arrest.
