SUKKUR: With the lockdown hitting the country's poor hard, the distribution of rations among 22,000 needy families has commenced in Sukkur, declared city mayor Arsalan Islam Shaikh.

Talking to the media at the Municipal Jinnah Stadium on Monday, Shaikh claimed that in the first phase of the distribution, 5,200 families were provided rations.

A camp was also set up with the collaboration of the Sindh government, Sukkur Municipal Corporation, district administration, NGOs and others from where people could collect ration bags, he stated.

Shaikh further said that computerised lists of the needy have been prepared to ensure that there was no duplication in the ration distribution.

According to him, the administration had taken all necessary measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus at the camp, including maintaining distance while distributing ration bags and sanitising everyone visiting it at the gate.

Moreover, the authorities also installed temporary washbasins for staff so that they could maintain hygiene, he said.
