'Slain journalist resisted murderers'

Second post-mortem result finds traces of multiple people's DNA under Aziz Memon's nails

HYDERABAD: Slain journalist Aziz Memon resisted his alleged murderers before his death, stated a second post-mortem report, which found traces of more than one person's DNA under the victim's nails.

Memon, 56, was allegedly murdered in the Naushero Feroze district on February 16. A reporter for a local news channel based in Mehrabpur taluka, his body was found floating in the Godah waterway with a cable tied around his neck.



Former Hyderabad AIG Dr Waliullah Dal had earlier claimed during a briefing before the National Assembly Standing Committee that Memon had died a natural death.

However, the family of the deceased rejected the police's assertion and demanded that a joint interrogation team (JIT) be set up. A JIT consisting of 10 members, including police officials, intelligence officials and doctors, was established on March 7.

After the family rejected the first autopsy report, Memon's body was exhumed on March 15 on court orders for another autopsy. The second post-mortem report was issued by Rizwana Khanzada, Mohammad Hussain, Dr Ali Muhammad and Professor Muhammad Akber.



"The report proves that he was killed," maintained Hafeez Memon, the brother of the deceased, who is also the complainant in the FIR.

Meanwhile, on Friday, the JIT also summoned a meeting of its members at the office of the Shaheed Benazirabad DIG to review the post-mortem report.

In March 2019, Memon had expressed fears that his life was under threat by local leaders of the Pakistan Peoples Party and the police. He had approached journalists in Islamabad and sought their help, also recording a video statement in this regard.
