Drugs and rock 'n roll kept Strings united: jokes Bilal Maqsood
The singer/guitarist said so in a fun Q and A session with fans on Instagram
Strings is easily one of the most recognisable musical acts in the country, spearheaded by Bilal Maqsood and Faisal Kapadia for three decades. Now, the secret to their bond is out!
In a fun question and answer session with fans on Instagram, Bilal jokingly revealed what's kept them glued together for 30 long years - during the length of which the two best friends have released a number of iconic hits including Mera Bichra Yaar, Dhaani, and most recently Sajni and Raat Shabnami.
During the Instagram session, a fan asked Bilal, "Unlike all other bands, what is the one thing that kept Strings united?" We weren't even ready for Bilal's reply!
"S*x, drugs and rock & roll," he wrote, adding an emoji to make sure no-one takes it seriously. Don't worry, Bilal, we totally understand the need to do so!
That isn't all. Bilal continued to have some fun during the session, answering questions with the perfect amount of humour and sarcasm - we totally needed the light-hearted laughs.
Fans also had questions related to his father, the legendary Anwar Maqsood, revered for his writings. Naturally, one person asked which of his father's sayings was his favourite. You would think he'd quote something really deep - you thought wrong.
"Beta prawns banaye hain, raat mai khana hamare saath khana (son, we've cooked prawns, have dinner with us tonight)," answered Bilal.
Guess what? He also finally settled the confusion on why Strings did not choose the renowned drummer Gumby as their drummer. "Gumby is amazing, but Aahad (Nayani) is the best," said Bilal. Well, there you have it guys, Strings has a favourite!
He also addressed questions about his family, but not in the typical way you would expect stars to! A user posed the question, "Why don't you post pictures of your wife and children?" In a hilarious response, Bilal replied, "Because they're ugly (goofy emoji, again)." That's some way to shut down speculation!
He also had some love to give away to his band mate Faisal Kapadia. A fan asked him if he would like to change something about Faisal, what would it be? Bilal had a simple response. "He's perfect. I would like to take some of his qualities." Now that's some bond.
Safe to say, Bilal's Instagram account is the perfect source of lockdown fun. Keep 'em coming!
