KARACHI: With the province-wide lockdown entering its third week amid the ongoing coronavirus threat, citizens across the metropolis have taken to flying kites from their rooftops and different grounds as a form of recreation.

However, at least 12 people have been injured by sharpened kite strings in the past few days.

Meanwhile, although the Sindh government has only given permission to grocery stores, food shops and pharmacies to open during the lockdown, sources revealed to The Express Tribune that some kite shops are still operating under the alleged patronage of police.

Sources accused the police of facilitating kite sellers in carrying out their business in New Preedy Street, Jutland Lines, Orangi Town, New Karachi, Liaquatabad, Korangi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar, Nazimabad, Malir City and other areas in exchange for hefty bribes.

Citizens have appealed to the Sindh Inspector General of Police, Mushtaq Mahar, to take action against the police officials involved in this act.
