UAE special plane carrying relief goods, medicines arrives in Pakistan

The special plane was carrying 11 tonnes of medical aid for Pakistan

A second consignment of relief goods and medicines from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) arrived in Islamabad on Sunday (today).

UAE Ambassador to Pakistan Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Al-Zabi said the second shipment of relief goods reached Pakistan this morning.

The special plane, sent by the UAE government, was carrying 11 tonnes of medical aid for Pakistan.

"We renew our commitment to stand with the world in the face of extraordinary circumstances and challenges," Al-Zabi said.

Late last month, Chinese billionaire Jack Ma’s Foundation and Alibaba Foundation sent a cargo plane carrying medical equipment to Pakistan.

The shipment is part of the donation of medical supplies to 10 Asian countries announced on March 21, an official statement said.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah arrived at Jinnah International Airport to receive the donations, which consisted of 500,000 masks, including N95 masks, and 50,000 coronavirus test kits.

“These masks and kits will be distributed all over the country,” the chief minister said.

The nationwide tally of COVID-19 patients soared past 2,900 with 1,196 case in Punjab, 864 in Sindh, 372 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 185 in Balochistan, 206 in Gilgit Baltistan, 78 in Islamabad, and 12 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The virus has claimed over 40 lives while at least 186 coronavirus patients have recovered.
