Volunteers can help residents in various areas including food distribution and public awareness

A Karachi based non-profit organisation has launched a volunteer mobilisation programme to help the residents of the metropolis during the coronavirus crisis in many areas including food/medicine distribution, blood donations, public awareness and others.

In a statement issued on Friday, Hope Karachi said it wanted to build a programme "bringing numerous categories under the same umbrella to help our community stand stronger in this time of uncertainty and help those in need" as the COVID-19 pandemic has left the health workers and medical workers overwhelmed.

"A volunteer engagement network, launched as a volunteering portal specific to promoting volunteering opportunities with nonprofits around the city to aid communities impacted by the coronavirus along with spreading awareness and educating everyone through our social media platform," the statement read.

The organisation further said that its dedicated team is "working around the clock to make a difference and play their part during this pandemic".

The official handout sought the help of individuals belonging to different walks of life including health professionals and social media influencers to play their role in helping the general public during their hour of need.

It said they currently requiring help of over 2,000 volunteers.
