CTP collects Rs3.8m in fines in a week
Citizens advised by govt to cooperate with traffic police
FAISALABAD: The City Traffic Police (CTP) imposed a cumulative fine of more than Rs3.8 million on 10,688 vehicles for violation of traffic rules over the last week. The fines were imposed following the recent government policy on transport, in place to protect citizens against the ongoing threat of coronavirus.Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Sardar Mohammad Asif Khan, while reviewing steps taken to implement the recent transport policy, said citizens should cooperate with traffic police and obey other traffic laws. “These laws include those against pillion riding so that citizens can protect themselves and the lives of their families to prevent the spread of the outbreak.”
It is only the citizens who will benefit by following these rules, he added. “Traffic police personnel are on the streets to protect the people. Therefore, citizens should cooperate with them.”
Tales of survivors: ‘Isolation, not coronavirus, was my worst nightmare’
The CTO clarified, “I am always inspecting the city on the roads and making sure that action is being taken against violators."
Reportedly, not only are restrictions imposed on any type of passenger travelling in cars in the city, but also on passengers in rickshaws. Similarly, pillion riding is not allowed. The main purpose of all these measures is the protection of all citizens in the city. The chief traffic officer also reviewed the performance of traffic sectors across the city. Citizens can call the CTP Helpline 1915, at any time, for any guidance regarding traffic.
