Lines Area - because of the movement, parking and repairs, the area is congested around the clock.

KARACHI:

As the minister is away on Umra, the hearing of public interest litigation on inter-city bus terminals was adjourned till August 11.

The petitioner is Mehfooz-un Nabi, an ex-councillor from Lines Area, who along with other residents has gone to court for help to have the inter-city bus terminals moved to another area. They maintain that because of the movement, parking and repairs, the area is congested around the clock. The Sindh High Court bench comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Muhammad Tasnim expressed its ire over the inordinate delay in the case. Why has the city government failed to follow the orders that were passed earlier, the bench asked an officer appearing in the case on Wednesday.

The minister is away for Umra and thus a meeting could not be held, came the reply. It is a matter of public convenience, why are you taking such a long time, the bench responded. There is a delay because two or three departments are involved, submitted the city official.

There may be hundreds of departments involved. It is a matter which could have been decided in an hour and you are taking years, the bench said.

The bench then gave the respondents one last chance and adjourned the hearing till August 11.
