ISLAMABAD: With the government directing to keep all educational institutions closed until June owing to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, educationists and officials at the FDE say they are preparing educational content which can be aired on television or other media as part of distance learning programmes in the federal capital.

Education officials, while speaking to the APP on Monday said that with the government closing educational institutions until May 31 and treating this period as summer vacations, they will utilise this time to prepare educational content which can be broadcast to save the time of students.

For this purpose, the official said that around 50 principals and teachers of schools and colleges in the federal capital were working with multiple educational providers to review and schedule educational content for the National Education television channel, which the government intends to launch in early April as part of its distance learning programme. The official added that following directions from the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), a team under FDE Academics Director Saadia Adnan has started work.

Moreover, the federal education ministry had decided to set up an emergency response centre to deal with the issues in the education sector due to the pandemic. Parliamentary Secretary for Federal Education Wajiha Akram had said that the federal government will establish a centre at the education ministry to help continue the provision of quality education to all school-going children.

She lauded the role of teachers and teams of FDE, the education ministry, the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) and the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) who were trying to launch the television channel while following all regulations.

They were also at the frontline of this fight against Covid-19, the same as doctors, she added.
