Second doctor tests positive for coronavirus at Islamabad hospital in three days

Diabetic specialist had shared same hostel room with a physician who diagnosed with contagious disease two days ago

ISLAMABAD: Another doctor serving at Islamabad's second largest medical facility was tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Sunday, as the tally of COVID-19 cases jumped to 43 in the federal capital.

The doctor, specialised in diabetes treatment, had shared the hostel room with a doctor who was tested positive for the contagion two days earlier at the Polyclinic hospital. Both the physicians hailed from Gilgit-Baltistan.

The Islamabad administration had sealed the hospital's hostel and all doctors who were residing in the hostel have been quarantined.

It is being ascertained by the administration whether the doctor contracted the virus through his roommate or any patient as the doctor had continued to conduct OPD for diabetic patients.  He has now been shifted to an isolation ward of the hospital.

Currently, the nationwide tally of the contagion patients has crossed 1,550 with 502 cases in Sindh, 570 in Punjab, 141 in Balochistan, 192 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 123 in Gilgit-Baltistan, and six in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, with 17 deaths.

The virus has claimed 17 lives in Pakistan. On the other hand, 25 patients have fully recovered.
