KARACHI: A doctor working at Liaquat National Hospital (LNH) tested positive for coronavirus after he attended a religious gathering in Raiwind, confirmed hospital spokesperson Anjum Rizvi on Saturday.

The said doctor has been in self-isolation at his residence for the past 10 days.

Meanwhile, other doctors working in the same department as him have also been sent on leave, with instructions to remain in quarantine and get themselves tested if they begin showing COVID-19 symptoms.

According to Rizvi, no other doctor, patient or staff member at the hospital has tested positive for the infection as of now and all necessary measures for protection against coronavirus have been implemented at the facility.

Meanwhile, a police inspector was also confirmed as having contracted coronavirus late on Friday night.

The 49-year-old policeman had been sent to the Indus Hospital a few days ago with a fever and cough. He is currently in intensive care, while all those who came in contact with him, including his family and colleagues, are being monitored.

The Sindh police chief gave instructions to take all possible steps to screen his contacts, while ensuring all precautionary measures are taken.
