Sabzi mandis across Sindh to close by noon

KARACHI: Sindh Agriculture Minister Muhammad Ismail Rahoo announced on Saturday the Sindh government's decision to reduce the working hours of sabzi mandis [wholesale vegetable markets] across Sindh, saying that the markets would be allowed to remain open only from midnight to noon.

However, he maintained that the supply of fruits and vegetables would not be affected by the reduction in operational hours of the markets.

The measure is one in a string of many taken by the provincial government to tighten the lockdown imposed in order to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Speaking in this regard, Rahoo said the step was necessary to ensure the protection of buyers, sellers and workers at the wholesale markets against the virus.

He instructed the chairpersons and administrators of different committees representing the vendors at wholesale vegetable markets to make sure that government orders were fully implemented, besides making certain that all markets were cleaned before closing and mask and sanitisers were made available to the sellers and workers.
