Government approves Ramazan relief package worth Rs2 bn

PM stresses on adequate supply of essential house-hold items in the market.

ISLAMABAD: Federal cabinet approved Rs2 billion package for Ramazan, which aims at providing substantial relief to common man, Express 24/7 reported on Wednesday.

The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, was held in Islamabad.

PM Gilani stressed that all concerned departments should ensure adequate supply of necessary house-hold items in the market and to keep lid on their prices as well.

It was reported earlier that the government had approved a price package for Ramazan, extending up to Rs40 in additional subsidy on sale of 16 essential edible items at the utility stores.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet, headed by Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh.

Subsidy of Rs14 per kg has been approved on oil, Rs10 per kg on pulses and rice while Rs40 per kg subsidy will be given on tea.

Utility Stores will also be providing 10% subsidy on all spices during the month.
