KARACHI: With 147 more arrests on Friday, the total number of people apprehended for violating the lockdown in the metropolis rose to 1,084 on the fifth day of the lockdown. Meanwhile, 104 others were arrested for hoarding masks and sanitisers.

The city police registered 48 more cases on the day, continuing their crackdown on violators of Section 144, prohibiting the gathering of four or more people. In the first five days of the shutdown, 329 cases have been filed.

So far, the Karachi police have been registered 329 First Information Reports (FIRs) and arrested 1084 citizens in the first five days of lockdown.

Since the province-wide lockdown was imposed on Monday to curtail the spread of coronavirus, police officials have been patrolling the city's streets to ensure that no one steps out of their homes without a good reason.

Barricades have been placed on various arteries of the city to slow down traffic and allow military and paramilitary soldiers as well as police personnel to stop and question those who are out and about.
