ISLAMABAD: With doctors and other medical staff forming the frontline in the war against the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), police officers in the federal capital have started saluting them as they head to the isolation wards for their shifts.

In a statement, Inspector General Police (IGP) Aamir Zulfiqar Khan paid tribute to the medical and paramedical staff of the federal capital, as well as the police personnel who were risking their lives to protect the people.

Terming the health staff `heroes of the nation,' the IGP directed all police personnel to salute healthcare providers wherever and whenever they come across them and offer them every possible assistance.

The IGP also appealed the people to cooperate with police, district administration and law enforcers in combating the virus by staying at home.

Meanwhile, Operations DIG Waqaruddin Syed said that the government’s directions will be fully ensured. He appealed the citizens to stay home and avoid social interactions and unnecessary movements to defeat this virus.

DIG Syed said that the Islamabad Police was ready to tackle the challenging situation and morale of force is very much high. He said precautionary measures are the only solution against Covid-19 and citizens should take care of the health of their families.

He said that meetings are being arranged with representatives of civil society and notables of the community including slum areas. The announcements are being made from mosques and other places for adopting preventive measures against Covid-19.
