Presenting floral bouquets to patients can transmit coronavirus, warns doctor

Dr Farhan Isa says virus can enter body through eyes, nose and mouth

KARACHI: Microbiologist Dr Farhan Isa has advised people against presenting floral bouquets to patients under treatment for the novel coronavirus in hospital, saying it has the potential to transmit the virus.

"Be careful while meeting patients at hospitals. Do not give them flower bouquets because they can spread disease," he was quoted as saying in a statement on Thursday.

Currently, the nationwide tally of COVID-19 patients has crossed 1,100 with 422 cases in Sindh; 131 in Balochistan; 405 in Punjab; 123 in K-P; 91 in Gilgit-Baltistan; 25 in Islamabad; and one in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, with nine deaths.

He also suggested that children should not be taken to hospitals as they are vulnerable to infections.

"Do not shake hands with patients and speak with the patient while keeping a distance," he said.

Dr Isa said the contagious virus can enter the body through eyes, nose and mouth hence it is necessary to keep them clean.

He also advised to clean the car's steering wheel with Dettol solution and regularly spray disinfectant solution in house to keep the family members safe from any infection including COVID-19.
