Hamza Ali Abbasi is the latest celebrity to defend popular fashion designer Maria B after a video trended on social media of her crying and demanding justice for her husband, Tahir Saeed.

Maria. B took to Facebook last night to post an ‘official statement’ explaining the now-infamous incident that went viral shortly before it.

As sources came forward to testify, it was revealed that she and her husband Tahir had actually been criminally negligent in containing the spread of coronavirus by exposing their COVID-19 positive cook to the general public.

Hamza, who is known for giving opinions about some key events online, took it upon himself to give his two cents about the situation, defending the couple.

"Absolutely disgusted by the behaviour of authorities and media who in this time of crisis are creating chaos and making false accusations," the actor wrote via the social media platform.

His words come after intense scrutiny and bashing on social media overnight, when Maria and Tahir sat down to post a lengthy clarification of the event. In Tahir’s words, the event was “ pure panic, specially at a time when the Prime Minister is urging people to not panic.”

Hamza penned that he believed the couple have been wronged by the authorities and social media. "These two are good people who have been wronged. Maria B. and her husband Tahir Saeed have clarified the allegations of irresponsibly sending their cook to his village after testing positive for COVID-19.

He continued, "Reacting to the news circulating about her husband being tested positive she presented the laboratory report clearly mentioning that Tahir Saeed tested negative."

Maria's house was raided in the middle of the night by Punjab Police who arrested Tahir. The businessman has subsequently been released from the lockup.

"She explained that they cooperated with all government departments which reached out to them for his details. They were assured that he had recovered by the MS - DHQ Vehari, who examined him," Hamza wrote in defence of the duo.

"She said in spite of this, her husband was implicated in a police case without proper investigation and treated as a criminal...This led to utter confusion and trauma which they cannot explain in words," he concluded.

Maria B, husband defend their 'ordeal' but social media isn't buying it

Hamza is not the only celebrity to have shared his opinion on the incident. Osman Khalid Butt recently took to Twitter to criticise Maria and Tahir for their 'irresponsibility.'

"If someone tests positive for COVID-19, the absolute last thing one should do is send them out into society," the Janaan actor wrote. "If you're unsure of what step to take, contact the relevant authorities. We all have to play our part in flattening the curve, please let's all be responsible."

Osman's status was in reply to politician Jibran Nasir's recent tweet, in which he sided with the police.

"Can the police be more polite in Pakistan? Of course, but don't blame them for doing their job. For those who don't know it is crime under PPC 269 & 270 to either negligently or malignantly do acts which you know are likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life," Jibran wrote.
