LAHORE: In the wake of the novel coronavirus, clerics from different parts of Punjab have started reciting the azaan to curb the spread of the pandemic.

The call to prayer was heard between 10 to 11:30pm, in Shandra, Gujranwala, Shaikupura, Jaranwala, Faisalabad and other areas of the province.

The clerics said the azaan is recited at a time when people are trapped in natural disasters such as constant rains, floods and earthquakes. Currently, Pakistan is struggling to combat the virus as the number of confirmed coronavirus has soared to 990.

A social media campaign was launched, urging clerics to recite the azaan in their areas.

Imposing curfew will be last option in fight against coronavirus, says PM Imran

When asked about the timing of the azaan during a calamity, the clerics responded that in such cases, it is recited after sunrise and after Isha prayer.

Hafiz Azhar, a cleric, told The Express Tribune that clerics recite the azaan to reduce panic in the country, adding that doctors, lawyers, politicians and other citizens are playing pivotal roles to combat the virus.

Another cleric Hafiz Habibullah said reciting the azaan stops calamities.

Muhammad Imran said it is important for the nation to set all differences aside and unite. He urged the clerics to request people to pray from home, instead of  mosques, in order to practice social distancing.

Nasir | 4 years ago | Reply Azaan is for call of a prayer. Here the good Muslims of Punjab, the Hafiz, are inviting Coronavirus, COVID-19 to the Mosques. May Allah help us against our ignorance of our own religion Islam.
