Cardi B thinks celebs may be getting paid to say they have COVID-19

The rapper expressed confusion over the criteria for testing

Even a pandemic cannot stop Cardi B from making her signature, over-the-top and often inappropriate remarks.

Currently under quarantine, the rapper has been conducting regular live sessions on her Instagram and in a recent one, she referenced factual discrepancies to allude that some celebrities might be getting paid to say that they’ve tested positive for COVID-19.

Going on a rant in typical Cardi fashion, the Bodak Yellow hit-maker had some points to make. “Let’s say if I have the coronavirus right now. How am I supposed to know I got it because sometimes I be like, ‘If you all have a cough, you have it?’ But then I be seeing these basketball players like, ‘Yeah, I have coronavirus, but I don’t have any symptoms.’ So how am I supposed to know when I’m supposed to get tested for it?” she said.

It’s interesting to note that many of the celebs who have so far confirmed that they’ve tested positive reported minimal to no symptoms. Hollywood actor Idris Elba had said, “I feel okay, I have no symptoms so far but have been isolated.”

Cardi then went on to mention how she thinks celebs may, in fact, be getting paid for this. “I’m starting to feel like you all are paying people to say that they got it,” she said, before taking a dig at herself like you’d expect from her. “And if you all are paying people to say that they got it, pay me too. I’m trying to get paid!”

It seems like Cardi has been taking online conspiracy theories quite seriously and turning them into quality content too, thanks to her live videos. It wouldn’t be surprising if this playful allegation goes even more viral, just like her earlier rant on coronavirus which is now on the iTunes charts in the form of a song titled Coronavirus.

Yes, a 45-second clip of Cardi talking about how serious the pandemic is and how scared she is managed to get turned into a remix over a trap beat by a Brooklyn-based DJ iMarkkeyz. But, making lives and getting chart-topping songs isn’t all she’s doing in this time of crisis.

Cardi and iMarkkeyz both have pledged that proceeds from streams and downloads will go towards helping those affected by the disease. She even went on to slam people for subjecting Asians to abuse and racism in the wake of the virus, which has been referred to as the ‘Chinese Virus’ by US president Donald Trump himself.

“Let's stop being xenophobic. Let's stop making jokes. Let's stop having crazy anger because I've been seeing a lot of Asians get beat up. Let's all be one race, because at the end of the day—in the eyes of God—we're all one,” she said.
