Unidentified men opened fire on police constable Muhammad Kamran, 28, near Raza Imambargah in Orangi Town.
According to the police, the injured constable had been patrolling the area after the Sindh government imposed a province-wide lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic. Armed suspects opened fire and shot Kamran in the leg when he tried to stop them. The culprits managed to flee the scene.
Separately, another policeman was shot in his leg during an alleged police encounter near the National Highway, within the jurisdiction of Memon Goth police station. The injured official, identified as 42-year-old Ghulam Nabi, was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment. The police have not commented on the incident.
Meanwhile, a security guard accidentally shot and injured his co-worker in Merit Society near the SITE Super Highway industrial area.
Abdul Razzaq Soomro had reportedly been trying to extract a bullet stuck in his colleague's gun when he accidentally shot the other guard, 35-year-old Amir Khan. Khan was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment, while the police took Soomro into custody. Further investigations are being carried out.
