Sindh police chief vows to continue routine operations amid coronavirus fears
Mushtaq Mahar directs cops to ensure implementation of govt orders issued to curb coronavirus at all levels
KARACHI: The police must ensure implementation of the government’s precautionary measures against coronavirus while continuing action against street crime, wanted criminals and the issuance of challans for running and pending cases, said Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar.On the eve of lockdown in the province, Mahar was chairing a meeting on Sunday to review the law and order situation in the city as well as the operational and investigation activities of the law enforcers
He said that the coronavirus pandemic had turned out to be a major challenge, thus taking effective measures to implement the advisories released by the provincial government was essential to curb its outbreak.

Mahar further directed the central police officers to ensure that government orders issued in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak are being enforced at all levels, adding that SHOs must improve patrolling and snap checking in their respective jurisdictions to control the street crimes and similar offences.
He suggested reviewing the list of wanted criminals and culprits on the run in the cases of murder, robbery, assault, and street criminals, expediting action against them.
The Sindh police chief stated that the performance of SHOs, senior investigation officers and investigation officers would be assessed based on progress in the operational and investigation aspects of their cases. He also reassured those present during the meeting that senior officials would ensure that the police were provided the required resources for investigation.
