ISLAMABAD: An application has been filed in the Supreme Court for the enforcement of emergency and curfew in the wake of coronavirus in the country.

The application requested the apex court to order provision of free-of-cost sanitizers and masks to the people and ensure facilities in the quarantine centres established in different parts of the country.

It stated that the measures taken by the government to prevent the spread of the deadly virus were insufficient as the number of its victims had risen to 504 from 22 in just a few days.

It said that if the virus continued to spread with the existing lethal speed, the government would be unable to tackle the challenge.

It expressed apprehension that squatter settlements and refugee camps could become a breeding ground for virus.

The application requested the top court for imposition of curfew and maintained that citizens should be allowed to move out of their homes only in case of emergency.

“The government should conduct tests of 10,000 citizens every day and jail inmates involved in petty crimes be released,” it said.

The application was filed by different residents of the federal capital.
