PDWP okays procurement of equipment for secondary health facilities

Provincial development body also approves hospital for South Waziristan district

PESHAWAR: Amidst the fight against coronavirus, the provincial government on Thursday approved a plan for the supply of medical and non-medical equipment to secondary hospitals in the province even as it approved 16 projects worth Rs6.94 billion.

The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) met in the provincial capital on Thursday with Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Additional Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan presiding over the meeting.

The forum considered at least 31 projects of different sectors, including urban development, health, home, roads and bridges, transport, local government sectors.

The meeting approved at least 16 projects. A project, which was cleared by the PDWP, was forwarded to the federal government for further approval.

As many as 14 projects were deferred and were returned to their respective departments for rectification.

The approved projects of urban development sector include the construction of bus terminals, fruit and vegetable markets, parks traffic management, public toilets, sports facilities, parking places and beautification in different urban areas of the province.

The meeting approved construction of taxi stand at Taro Khel Durba Khel areas in Mohmand district. Improvement of green belt along with railway 1 from Khyber Teaching Hospital emergency gate to the Kushal Khan Khattak Road at University Town Peshawar was approved. Construction of detour road Hayatabad remaining portion was also approved.

The forum approved a project to open a hospital in the Sholam are of South Waziristan tribal district through a public-private partnership.

Construction of mosque and accommodation for examiners at Saidu Medical College and provision of standard medical and non-medical equipment to secondary hospitals were also approved.

Acquisition of land for heavy firing range adjacent to elite police training centre Nowshera and purchase of land for construction of police lines in Dagger area of Buner district was also approved.

The improvement and rehabilitation of water supply and sanitation system in DI Khan and Malakand Division with the assistance of USAID were also approved.
