KARACHI: As fears about the coronavirus rise, the administration of Sindh Leadership School (SLS) has begun providing free masks and sanitisers to over 1,100 students at their homes in remote areas of Sindh, in order to ensure their safety.

The SLS has eleven campuses in remote areas of Sindh including Sakrand, Dadu, Moro, Tando Mohammad Khan and Tando Jam Matli, where the non-profit organisation is providing education.

Working under the slogan 'Coronavirus: it's all about the fight, not fear,' the school has also made plans to complete the rest of its course online, in the wake of the closures of educational institutions announced by the Sindh government.

SLS chairperson Zulfiqar Ali told The Express Tribune that despite difficulties, the organisation was able to acquire masks from a private citizen who had been selling them at expensive rates. He added that aside from the masks, the students were also being provided with training kits.

Ali stated that the SLS is at the 'centre of change' as it operates in Sindh, which ranks fourth in education among Pakistan's provinces. He explained that at this time, they were working to improve the skills of children and their parents through the theme of fighting the pandemic, adding that they were developing different strategies to teach students precautionary measures and how to keep them safe.

He maintained that the SLS had decided to continue to assist parents in educating their children through WhatsApp groups, educational videos and a helpline, in order to complete the remaining syllabus. He further said that internet facilities will also be made available in small cities of Sindh in the next few days, enabling them to begin online classes from their base in Karachi.
