AIOU launches new degree programme

Aspiring candidates will need to have cleared their FA or FSc in at least the second division

ISLAMABAD: The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has launched four-year-long, bachelors course in health and physical education.

The Bachelors in Studies (BS) degree programme is aimed at promoting healthy living through education and sports-based activities.

AIOU Admissions Director Mian Muhammad Riaz said that initially, the degree programme will be offered in all the major cities of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Quetta, Multan, Peshawar and Karachi. Later, it will be extended to other parts of the country. It will be conducted by teachers of physical education, who will need to have both theoretical and practical knowledge on the subject. Trained coaches and sports personnel will also be engaged to augment the course.

Riaz added that this is a merit-based programme where aspiring candidates will need to have cleared their Federal Arts (FA) or Federal Sciences (FSc) in at least the second division.

Apart from the physical education programme, the varsity will also offer four-year BS programmes in Accounting and Finance, Pakistan Studies, Arabic, Islamic Studies (General), Islamic Studies (Quran and Tafseer), Islamic Studies (Shariah), Islamic Studies (Hadees), Islamic Studies (Seerat Studies) and Islamic Studies (Dars-e-Nizami).
