ISLAMABAD: As part of its efforts to improve facilities in the city, particularly in low-cost housing societies, the apex civic agency of the federal capital has decided to rehabilitate the road infrastructure in the model urban shelter project, Farash Town, as part of an Rs844 million project to improve the overall situation of the neighbourhood.

In this regard, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) said that it has issued tenders for rehabilitating roads in sectors one through four of Farash Town. Once the tender bidding process is complete and submitted tenders have been processed, the road rehabilitation work will start.

Under the initiative, not just the road infrastructure, but street lights, sewerage system and other missing facilities will also be provided.

It is pertinent to mention here that Farash Town was developed on the outskirts of the federal capital to relocate dwellers from slums such as Muslim Colony, Haq Bahu, Dhoke Najju and Essa Nagri.

However, no attention was given towards improving or even maintaining existing facilities in the area, due to which the condition of the area deteriorated.

To improve the condition in the town, a comprehensive plan with a project concept-I (PC-i) worth Rs844.33 million was developed. The PC-I was presented in the 46th meeting of CDA’s Development Working Party (DWP) which was held in January.
