Addressing a press conference at Insaf House on Sunday, Sheikh maintained that in the past, Sindh had been 'looted with both hands,' while Karachi, the city that provides 65 per cent of the total revenue of Pakistan, had been treated like a garbage dump.
"The people of Karachi have suffered at the hands of leaders who did not carry out their responsibilities properly," said the PTI leader, adding that the provincial rulers had done nothing for the citizens after receving their vote.
However, he asserted, the Centre was ensuring that the lives of citizens are made better with schemes such as the 2020-21 projects that would include 50 fire tenders for the megacity, so that another tragedy like the Baldia town factory fire can be dealt with more swiftly.
He further stated that projects worth Rs278 billion had been given to Karachi by the PTI government, many of which had already been inaugurated. He also said that the federal government would work to resolve the problems of slums in the city.
Moreover, Sheikh criticised the provincial government for the deaths that occurred when a residential building collapsed in Rizvia Society on Thursday. Holding the Sindh government responsible, he maintained that during the last decade, it had turned Karachi into a concrete jungle, where 12-storey buildings are erected on 60-yard plots, resulting in unstable constructions.
He claimed that the PTI was working hard to address the issues of the people, adding that soon, Pakistan would stand in the comity of the developed nations. PPI
